Hey SMEs – you matter to the UN (and to us)

International Micro, Small, Medium Business Day

We bet you knew that small businesses, including those run by women and young entrepreneurs, are being hit hardest by the economic fall-out of the pandemic.

But did you know?

According to the data provided by the International Council for Small Business (ICSB), formal and informal Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) make up over 90% of all firms and account, on average, for 70% of total employment and 50% of GDP.

They are an important element in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure).

That’s why the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution recognising the crucial role of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) play in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

And June 27 is the day to celebrate it.

Thanks to the UN for recognising the hard work we all do.
